Day 1: Pilgrim heritage
Tour begins at the Sheraton Boston at 8:30 a.m. Travel to Plymouth to see Plymouth Rock marking the Pilgrims’ 1620 landing site. Step back in time at Plimoth Plantation, a re-created 17th-century village with costumed role players who bring early American history to life. Lunch at Falmouth Harbor, then take a ferry to Edgartown, Martha’s Vineyard.

Day 2: Explore the Vineyard

Day 3: Whaling days on Nantucket
Take a 15-minute flight to the island of Nantucket, one of the country’s most important whaling towns two centuries ago. See the coastal heathlands and long barrier beaches; approximately 40 percent of Nantucket is preserved as conservation land. Take a ferry to Cape Cod to spend the next two nights.

Day 4: Whale watch cruise
Visit the Cape Cod National Seashore on the outer Atlantic side of the Cape with massive sand dunes above crested seas. Arrive in Provincetown on the tip of the Cape, another historic whaling town due to Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary offshore, the summering grounds for a number of whale species. Weather permitting, take a guided whale watch cruise to see them roll, flip their tails, and blow through their blowholes. This is a travel New England highlight.

Day 5: History in Sandwich & Newport
Travel New England to Sandwich, established in 1639 and renowned for glassware. Visit the Heritage Museums and Gardens, showcasing an antique car collection, a Cape Cod windmill dating to 1800, and a working 1912 carousel. Arrive in Newport, Rhode Island, a long-time haven for yachting enthusiasts and former home of the America’s Cup. Drive past some of the ostentatious mansions that served as summer houses for affluent socialites during the Gilded Age. Travel the Ten-Mile Drive, and visit the International Tennis Hall of Fame and Touro Synagogue, the oldest synagogue in America.

Day 6: A day in Newport
Take a guided tour through The Breakers, a 70-room Italian Renaissance mansion inspired by the 16th-century palaces of Genoa and Turin. Built by Cornelius Vanderbilt, it’s now a National Historic Landmark. Explore Newport on your own, watching the bustle on Bowen’s Wharf, or strolling the oceanfront Cliff Walk between the sea and mansions. Enjoy the farewell dinner in the evening.
