Description

For a glimpse of Nantucket's undeveloped side, the stuff of peaceful lagoon, cedar savanna, saltwater swales and windworn oak forest, steer for the Coskata-Coatue Wildlife Refuge, of note not only for its natural scenery but also its sandy beaches and historic lighthouse at Great Point. Though seasonal tours offer easy access to this stretch of coastal turf, independent travelers can purchase the appropriate permits and enjoy an oversand drive (with suitable vehicle) or a hike along refuge's 16 miles of trail and beach.
