Description

Island history and culture are the focus of the permanent collection and exhibits at the Martha's Vineyard Historical Society Museum in historic Edgartown. Counted amongst MVM's holdings are more than 30,000 objects, including historic artifacts left by early inhabitants, fossils, model ships, manuscripts, ephemera and even old decoys. Be sure to visit the Cooke House for a glimpse inside an 18th-century island residence, see the "Tryworks, and have a look at shipwreck remnants in the Carriage Shed on a comprehensive tour of the history-oriented museum campus. Inquire at the museum for information on tours of the Edgartown, East Chop and Gay Head lighthouses when they are open in season.
